Central IT

Training

This year, we are migrating many staff and faculty within UW Colleges and UW-Extension to Microsoft Office 2007. The migration schedule is being planned right now for those affected by this change. If you have questions about whether or not you will be migrated to Office 2007, or want to find out approximately when your migration will take place, please contact your supervisor. Madison-based staff who are ready to move to Office 2007 can go to:
http://uwex.uwc.edu/it/forms/service/
to submit a Service Request to have the Central IT Service Center load Office 2007 on your machine.

As individual users are migrated to Office 2007, they are encouraged to utilize the many resources available here and in Desire2Learn. The most important tool to learn, especially when first starting out with Office 2007 is the "New User Interface" or the "Ribbon". The links below provide users access to a great PDF document about the Ribbon that can be printed, and a Microsoft video. To download and print the PDF, right click on the link and select "save target as", and then browse to a location on your computer where you will be able to find the file and print it.

Remember the Computing Tip of the Week will be arriving in your inbox on most Fridays, and it will cover new topics in Office 2007.

Coming in the next month or so will be online training courses in Desire2Learn called: "Basics and Beyond" for Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word 2007. These individual courses will be broken down into mini units, so users can either complete the whole course, or pick and chose those sections where they need extra assistance.

Other Training Resources

During each semester, training is offered via WisLine Web to the campuses. Topics include the use of many of the tools in Desire2Learn, technology best practices and introduction to new technologies and MS Office 2007.

Training is also provided for staff in the use of Microsoft Office tools and PRISM. Past WLW trainings are archived online.

The Computing Tip of the Week is written and distributed via email to all UW Colleges and UW Extension employees. The tips are also archived at the CTOW archive site.
